At the moment there are more than 40,000 stranded Australians around the world, who are not allowed to cross Australian state borders or the international border. These people are a massive group of isolated individuals, with no other choice than creating a virtual community. I am in the same position and, to be honest, I am feeling pretty useless. Therefore I have started the following project:
I invite all stranded Australians to:
1. write a postcard with your stranded story
2. take a photo of the back and front of this card
3. post the photos on your social media platforms with the hashtag #inozbeforeme, when you want to enter Australia, or #iamstuckinoz, when you are stuck in Australia
4. send the actual card to my post box with the hashtag for a heading
#inozbeforeme or #iamstuckinoz
PO Box 648
Samford Qld 4520
Options to design a card online:
- print and send only:
Please send to above PO Box address
- virtual only:
Please email to firstname.lastname@example.org and I can print it out from there.
When I get home, I will assemble the postcards into an art installation and donate it to a museum, and who knows, it might be the National Museum of Australia!
*Please note that when I have received your card by post or by email I assume to have your permission for use in the installation.
Unfortunately, we are making history, which needs to be marked in time and place. This project is about you; your experiences deserve to be heard. The more postcards are sent, the better it reflects the reality of this situation. Thank you, take care and best wishes, Lucie
I am aware of the environmental impact of this project. Putting a plant in your garden or in a pot is a thoughtful and enjoyable gesture for offsetting the use of paper, transport and data storage.
